Surnames: Canon, Raiford, Shaw, McFadyen, Mahon, Pittman
Philip Ephraim Raiford, Sr. wife unknown, had five children that I know about, Sarah; Rachel; Philip, Jr.; William; and
Matthew. Four of the above children came to Marshall
Co., MS (on the TN line ESE of Memphis, TN). They were Thomas Woodward, m. Sarah Caroline Barbee; Robert Andrew,m. Margaret Bryan Wyche of Thomas Co., GA in 1835; Malachi, m. Patience Wyche, 1836; and Elizabeth, the youngest. She married a John wimberly of Holly Springs, MS. A local historianis not familiar with the Wimberly name.

The only fairly complete information that I have is on my line through Philip, Jr. I have William D.'s line down through 1955 when I met a descendant of his in Colorado Springs. He had worked on his family for years. The descendant, col. Raiford Payne, USA (Retired) grew up in Forrest City, AR, about 40 miles from where I grew up.

through colonel Payne, I also have Thomas Woodward's line down through about 1955. I have only the birth of twin boys to Malachi and Patience in 1845 and absolutely nothing on Elizabeth and John.

After a quick name search in Family Tree Maker, I didn't find any Celia Raiford. Philip Raiford, Jr. and his wife Elizabeth Daniel, had a son named John D. Raiford, m. Sarah Watson. My g-g-grandfather, a younger brother of John's married in 1835.

John D. was probably about 4-5 years older than my g-g-grandfather, Robert.

If John and Sarah had a daughter, she probably would have been too young to get married in 1837.

There were beaucoup Raifords who came to Mississippi in the 1840 time frame, many to Amite County, MS.

There are two Carolines in W. R. Raiford's's book, one in Wilcox Co., AL shown to be age 25 in the 1850 census; the other was born in 1947.

I checked in William Russell Raiford's book, THE HISTORY OF THE RAIFORD FAMILY, and couldn't find a Celia
Raiford. Many Johns, since that was a fairly common name in the family to Crediton, Devonshire, England. When I get my scanner working again, I can scan the John Raifords in and send that to you. It's three and a half pages
in the book. I only see one listed as living in LA, though, John Thomas Raiford, b. Jul. 6, 1836 in Washington Parrish, LA
(father: William Raiford, no mother listed), m. Barbara Oschner Jun. 1 1871, Ponchatoula, LA. He died in 1920.

There several more with no state given but most were born either in the late 1700s or from about 1844 on.
