I am interested in the Raiford surname from South Carolina. My great grandmother was Celia Caroline Raiford, born about 1815 in Louisiana, but I am sure her family had come from South Carolina. I first found her in the East Feliciana Court House Records in 1837 when her marriage to Simeon B. Henagan was recorded. I next found her husband and family (one girl under 5, one boy under 5, and one female under 25) listed on the East Felliciana Census of 1840, Mr. Henagan. The family on the Census above Mr. Henagan was that of John Raiford. I felt like this was her father. There were other Raifords in the same area of the Felicianas in this same time frame, especially a Phillip, Thomas and others. Any information along these lines would be useful.
