He may be in Plarr's Lives (you can access some of this on line) it is a biography of some of the Fellows of the Royal College of Surgeons. There are also Colleges in Edinburgh, Glasgow & Dublin (some surgeons qualified there even if they worked in England) often surgeons at this time started off as Royal Naval surgeons (Try Steele's Navy List). Going on another of your replies, he could have been an Apothocary - sort of Chemist / GP. At that time the divisions between Physician, surgeon and apothocary were a bit blurred.
