Hello Annie
If you’re still interested in knowing the answer to your query, here goes.
Actually I’m not sure I can give you a correct answer, but I’ll do my best.
The school that children living in St John’s Road, Eastwood, Rotherham, would have attended might well have depended on their address in St John’s Road.
If their house number was less than about number 65, then I suspect that they might have attended the Coleridge Road Primary School, which was within very easy walking distance along Fitzwilliam Road, almost at the corner of Cranworth Road.
If their house number was over about number 65, then they might have attended the Doncaster Road School, again with equally convenient walking distance.
The next question is whether both these schools were open in 1901, and I suspect that they would have been, though I cannot say for sure.
If neither of them was open at that time, then there’s a possibility that they may have had to walk all the way to the St Ann’s Road Council School, which was certainly operating in 1901, and indeed well before that date, for sure.
Sorry I can’t be more definite.
Good wishes – Dennis Prestidge
