How lovely to hear from you Dennis, and so quickly, and all the way from wonderful Thailand, the marvels of the internet!
You are wrong when you say you can't add much, you have definately closed a few queries for me. I suspect now that James and his family would have attended the Chapel. And the School! I have poured over the ordnance survey map for ages but did not know which one they would have attended, also my Grandfather Samuel (James brother)lived at 45 Hope Street! in the 1881 and 1891 census. He then moved to Normanton when his first wife died, he was a Railway Wagon Inspector so I presume he followed a job? my mother was the eldest child from his second family, he also had eight children!
I assumed that Chapel street and road were one and the same! so that is cleared up too! thankyou so much Dennis.
Chemist Lane is on Autoroute, so I assume it is still there, it is up Greasborough Street, its just a cul-de-sac, turn right into Thames Road, then right round a curve, so very close to where the school was. I have looked up Thornhill Primary School and its been rebuilt, I assume, in Walter Street.
I hope you are enjoying life in Thailand, I'm sure it's far removed from your childhood memories, but then memories when you are young colour out all the grey don't they?
Once again thank you and I hope you have a good 2008!
Regards Joan
