I am a Smith on my Grandfather Hampton Hilliard Smith's side(b. 1833/34 in AL or GA to Jesse Smith (b. 1800) and Penelope Knight (b. 1800 in SC) Jesse was born in GA then the family lived in Hatchet Creek, Coosa Co., AL in 1850;Rockford, Coosa Co., AL in 1860, and maybe Travellers Rest, Coosa Co., AL in 1870. You will find children of Jesse and Penelope listed with Jesse on the 1850 census. I have discovered other Smith relatives, children of Hampton by two wives--Harriet Beuford/Benford and Margaret Luticia Pearson in AL, MS, FL, etc. and in various counties. It is possible that we may be related.
