I`m not sure if I`ll be of much help. But here it is. My grandparents came over separately from Sweden in 1903. They met and married in Oak Park, ILL in 1905. The only puzzle to me is that my grandfather arrived with the name Axel Emil Jansson and on the marriage certificate his name is Berndes. To this day nobody in our family knows why or how he changed his name to berndes. My grandparents lived in Chicago 1903-4/ St. Louis 1904-1908/ and then to Los Angeles, California.
