The initials CS stand for Civil Service and PS stands for Patriotic Service. Generally, these designations mean that the person submitting the DAR application found a reference that showed the patriot supported the cause for independence, but did not serve in the Continental Army, a state militia or any military unit. He may have served, but this was not listed on the application.

I am unable to provide any additional information about Israel Crane, Jr being the Cornet. I have access only to what I sent you. However, if you order a copy of the application for Israel Crane, Jr., the application should list the reference that provided that information.
