Hello. It is good that you asked about the price, and no, it is not the same. The price for a "Record Copy" is now $10. If you read the two postings of 2001, the information is the same as to what is needed. However, in the new Patriot Index, I did not find a James Gamble who matched with birth and death dates. For the one that was the closest in matching, there was a flag on that name that said future applicants must prove the service. This meants that somewhere in an application, conflicting information was provided.
It would be best for you to write to our national headquarters and inquire from them about your ancestor. Send a letter to Library Services, Record Copy Dept., 1776 D Street, NW, Washington, DC, 20006-5303. List all known information about your James and through which child and grandchild you are descended. Your accompanying check for $10 should be made to Treasurer General, NSDAR. Should the staff find a match, they will then use your check and send you that one copy of one application that best matches the information you provided. The offices are catching up with a large backlog and the wait for a return reply is now about 3 to 4 weeks.
If you are interested in membership in DAR or SAR, let me know and we'll see that someone near to you gets in touch.
Good luck,
Mary
