thank you for your reply, Joan. It seems unlikely that our Watsons are immediately connected. William Watson, my great grandfather, married in Maitland in 1863. He had a son called Thomas who was born in 1874. I checked the 1891 marriage you mentioned but do not think it fits into that immediate family. But who knows, there may be a side connection which isn't yet clear to me so I have filed away the information. I have reached a blank with William as his birthplace in England is unclear - leaves things wide open. Am still hoping to find something about an earlier marriage which might have occurred in Launceston around 1851. No proof of that yet.
