I should have been more specific as I do have someone in my tree who had two kids with the same name, but one died when they were 3 days old. The tree I was referencing had 2 sons, both with the same name who were alive at the same time. I also have a couple of generations of German ancestors who differentiated their offspring my their middle names. That was a whole lot of fun to sort out. I must have looked at (and into) those names for 2 months before I added them to my tree.
But again, I think a lot of the fault lies with Ancestry. The ads make it sound so easy. Not sure what they could do about it though. They could add all kinds of warnings about checking multiple sources etc, but for many it would be like those end user agreements that we all click right through without reading when installing new software.
