Hi Nancy Jane, we likely met at the Glengarry Highland Games at the Grant reunion. I was the genealogist that attended at the tent, and had sent your father an expanded PDF format genealogy on the Grants based on Lois's book which he received shortly before he died. I was widowed a few weeks before the event in 2006 and have since remarried. I was Evelyn Scullion, now Evelyn Goulet.
I descend from Archibald Macdonell of Leek. Ellen was actually the daughter of Archibald's father John Macdonell of Leek (she was born c1749 and Archibald was born 1741) John b1707 with his brothers Allan of Collachie and Alexander of Aberchalder led the Pearl emigration. Taken prisoner by the Americans for the Scots good behaviour a few years later, he died abt 1782, and his widow Jean Chisholm lived with their son, the Rev. Roderick Macdonell He came to Glengarry to rejoin his family on the Ship Ranger in 1785. The 'Leek' family was Catholic and was the 1st priest in Upper Canada, and missionary to the Indians in St. Regis.
I have a lovely color picture (painting) of the Pearl scanned (there is a b&w version on the Glengarry County Genweb you can download) If you want a copy, send me an email.
