Gil Raposo
NEW BEDFORD -- Gil Raposo, 68, of New Bedford died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999, at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of Lidia (Soares) Raposo and the son of the late Antonio and Maria Conceicao (Carvalho) Raposo.
Born in Arrifes, Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal, he lived in this area for 31 years and was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
He previously was a waterfront floorman for Aiello Brothers of New Bedford.
Mr. Raposo was a member of Benefica Sports Association and enjoyed spending time with his sons on their farms.
Survivors include his widow; seven daughters, Maria G. Bandy of Davenport, Fla., Maria N. Duarte of Miami, and Alexandrina Camara, Susie Ventura, Lydia Raposo, Lucia Xavier and Rosa Flor, all of New Bedford; five sons, Eusebio Raposo and Duarte Raposo, both of New Bedford, Donald Rapoza of South Dartmouth, Gil Raposo of Acushnet and Antonio Raposo of North Dartmouth; 22 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Manuel Rapoza.
The funeral Mass will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
Arrangements are by the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St.
Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
