You can choose different levels, or numbers of markers, to have tested. My brother and I chose to use the Ancestry.com site to order through - http://dna.ancestry.com/buyLotGoals.aspx, and we chose to do the paternal lineage test (Y-Chromosome 33 or 46 are the choices - we chose the 46 marker test.) The cost for that is currently $149, which I believe is down some from what it was. The 33 marker test looks like it is $79. This site has good information on what it does, which was quite helpful. As they say, "Only males can take this test, but females can ask a father, brother, paternal uncle or nephew to take it for them."
