There's a bunch of speculation on Haplo B's historic journey over at DNA-Forums.org.

You might want to go to Google Scholar and look up the papers associated with mtDNA marker 16189. If I recall, it can theoretically lead to left ventricular hypertrophy, type II diabetes, cardiomyopathy, Meniere's Disease, lacunar cerebral infarction, and endothelial inflammation. It can also lead to problems with certain medicines ... the mycins, I believe. I'm no doctor, so don't get too concerned. The docs are still hypothesizing.

Almost nobody has jumped the barrier between genetic research and family medicine. Still, forewarned is forearmed if you're scientifically-minded. I recommend Aceon for the heart thing, Betahistine for the ear thing, and Metformin for the sugar thing. (But don't freak out all your relatives when you research it all because most people don't really want to know what's tearing them down!)

Mitochondrial haplogroups associated with susceptibility toward cancer http://biomaps.rutgers.edu/Seminar-M_Tanaka.pdf

The mtSNP 15535C>T (Cytb: syn), representing haplogroup B4, was associated with all cancer (P = 0.005) with an odds ratio of 1.867 (95% CI 1.204-2.896).

P.S. -- The good news is that 16189's use of sugar as an antifreeze could get you through the next Ice Age. Soon as we get through this global warming, expect one!
