I am H1b1 and have tested at the Full Genomic Sequence level on FTDNA.

Of course not everyone is able to identify the nationality of their earliest known direct maternal ancestors but for those who did, the highest number at the FGS level identified England, followed by Germany and then Ireland with none from Finland.

Of those who just tested at the HVR1 and HVR2 level, the highest number listed England, followed again by Germany and then Ireland. Of course things were a bit complicated since many people just identified United Kingdom. Only one person listed Finland.

Since MtDNA lines can stretch back longer than most people are able to identify with a paper trail, I'm not sure how much stock one can put in what most people list in any event. Just because someone lists England or United Kingdom you have no way of knowing where the earlier ancestors were before ending up in the UK. I have communicated with some of my matches who claim that their families have never left Scandinavian countries to this day.

I realize that autosomal DNA is passed down from both male and female ancestors but my mother's autosomal ethnicity estimate on Ancestry.com is 68% Great Britain and 8% Scandinavia with 4% Finland/NW Russia. This differs from my own of 53% Great Britain, 15% West Europe, 15% Scandinavia and 11% Ireland with no Finland/NW Russia.
