Shout louder - my voice has gone hoarse. :( I've begged and begged them for a even just a one-off list at a price much higher than $10 in surveys, feedback button, social media... sigh. I just don't think the people who process my chirping are the people who really understand the amount of hard, hard cash I want to give them right now.
Even if Ancestry simply had a CSV to download (like FTDNA) that was only updated four times a year, I'd be excited. Anything, at this point, other than waiting for the mousetrap.
Or even having the mousetrap: I'm pretty skeptical that they'll be able to link a segment to an ancestor when I'm related to the people who share it with me 4-5 different ways through intermarrying collateral lines. (Ah, Kentucky!)
If Ancestry gives us a simple download, they will officially be in segment territory without providing as much in the way of tools as the competition. Is it worth it when the people who care about these things will still be complaining? Maybe they could use the "we have jillions more matches" excuse to save face.
We used to talk here about it maybe being a legal issue, that the Ancestry agreement didn't give them a clear way to share segment data without asking for permission, but it seems like Ancestry would have mentioned that by now to try to get us off their back.
We also used to speculate here about the reasons why Ancestry wouldn't give us a search engine for our matches. Wise heads were concerned about the amount of computing power this would take... and look, now we have an engine (such as it is - crazy that we have to use Jeff's tool to search for users).
There are ways. Ancestry indexes all of our matches' trees so we can search them. Surely they could also store/link the shared segment information, even if it's only displayed on demand in a corner of the match page. I don't really want to open 57,150 match pages (I counted!) to see them all, but SOMETHING... anything...
Let's keep begging them for a downloadable file for a fee. I know people feel we should be insisting on a chromosome browser, but Genome Mate can be my browser. Spreadsheets can be my browser, if GM can't handle the import. I'll take anything with segment info. I'm just so tired of sitting on this pile of gold, unable to spend it.
