I can't speak to 23andMe. I haven't spent any money with them.

GEDmatch has had some issues but given the nature of the operation I'd say they're doing a pretty good job at keeping the lights on. The current downtime is not as a result of an implosion but a move.

FTDNA's "unlimited" ability is limited to 10 matches at a time and if the segment matching is done when you run the browser as I suspect it is the total number of matches in your list would be immaterial.

Based on how we currently get our results at ANC I suspect at least some of the information is already there anyway. I tend to get a lot of the same few shared surnames in a row when looking at my matches sorted by date. It could be a coincidental but where computers are concerned I look beyond coincidence since that's a random thing and there's nothing about computers that is truly random. I'm of the opinion that ANC's systems do the comparison in chromosome order and if so the matches you get are probably coming to you in the order they occurred. That's just a gut feeling on my part and I have no data other than my observations to back it.

I also suspect the 10x increase in people using the browser would drop off fairly quickly once people figured out a browser isn't going to take the place of real research so that issue would be short lived.

I'll grant that we have a lot more matches at ANC. Especially if your ancestors like mine were among the colonials. I'd be willing to accept getting rid of the bottom 25% or setting a minimum number of people in a tree type threshold or whatever it takes to trim the results to something ANC's systems could manage.

Truth be told if ANC thought there was money in it they'd already have a browser out. It'd only work half the time but that's another gripe.
