Cheryl, I'm so sorry for your loss. Getting usable DNA from the items you mention is very tricky, and very costly. I suggest that you phone FTDNA and ask if any of these items might do and what the cost would be. Phone: (713) 868-1438.
For others who might read this, the best approach is to obtain a sample from the deceased by rubbing the inside of the cheek with two or three Q-tips, allow them to dry, then place them in a brown paper bag -- not plastic. Many funeral directors keep kits on hand for this purpose.
