Hi Michael
Wellllll l it is fairly uncommon but not rare. That is an exaggeration. The name is Bufton. It has spread throughout the USA with clusters in Wales and the borders. However in Western Australia only my male 1st cousins and their families carry down the name. I meant rare insofar as it would not attract a project unless all those Buftons out there want to join me???? I believe there is a line in Melbourne AU (and other states) and two different lines in NZ. There is only one person registered in the DNA database but I am going to give all the info to other lines I have contacted over the years and see if we can open a project for an ancestry.com test. I have to ask my cousin first! Given that our line comes from convict stock (as do some others in Australia, but don’t appear to be many left) maybe people would not be interested. Also I don’t think there will be any surprises as to our origins. I have been researching for 30 years and still struggling to finish writing my book. I need to let go of the research and concentrate on writing, but some interesting facts have needed following up. You all know that syndrome.I am very pedantic.
That is just for the benefit of other Buftons. Thanks for giving me a platform!! I just join ancestry from time to time to find relatives. My research is mainly through primary sources.
Cheers
