My dad's mother was adopted back in the mid 1920's. She passed away in 1968, and never knew her real parents. We have an adoption document that gives her, and her mother's real name, but does not list a father. I am in the process of getting the official adoption papers, but was informed that if there was no father's name on the document we have, it's not likely to be on the official sealed document. The questions I have are how good is the DNA testing at finding more recent relatives, as opposed to just finding where my ancestors came from? And also, would it be better if my dad supplied his dna instead of me, just to help narrow things down better, given that it's a specific person/family line that I'm searching for? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Brent
