Since my mother revealed to me last year mid-August 2014 that she was adopted, I had to re-do my research (25 yrs of searching only her adoptive parents' lineages) but I was already into about a year and a half of genetic genealogy where I realized quickly how problematic it was when it came to matches for people of endogamous groups.

I blogged about the details as to the problems of dealing with my mother's matches coming from a group of people who lack genetic diversity. And because of that, we get an extremely closely predicted relationship, more so at FTDNA than 23andme, Ancestry or GEDmatch. Because of that, it makes it much more difficult to research.

Plus the fact that we never had surnames until 1860 and even with surnames they were very inconsistent when it came to families having the same surnames. Not to mention how documentation does not go back too far with our genealogies.

But now that I got my mother's maternal side, I need to do the same with her paternal side.
