Folks new to family research who do not already have well developed family trees may benefit, but on the other hand it is more likely to further confuse them and result in even more impossible family trees. As always, ancestry is generating hints based on common names in family trees between matches, without any correlation to how people are matching. This is NOT science. "
Cheryl - I think you just described exactly what is going on...from reading numerous posts on other forums, these "in-law" issues are all over-the-place and it causes lots of wasted time and could well confuse many. It is very different from the "basic" matching and original leafs that ONLY listed surnames in your direct line and in your dna matches (you could always click on full tree view to see other names, but the highlighted surnames were only supposed to be dna direct ancestors)
