Agree..none of the companies have all the things one would want and you have to combine stuff (i.e. use FTDNA or gedmatch for ancestry.com chromeosome browser work etc). I have been told that although 23&me hasn't given out health dna information for more than a year because of the FDA problems, there are people submitting their dna tests as part of research groups on particular diseases or health conditions and many of those are the anonymous users on 23&me; also apparently they are starting to offer the health data to Canadian users so they still are focusing on recruiting people interested in health, not genealogy. The 23&me's CEO's recent letter to customers (end of the year or start of new year letter, can't remember which it was!) made it clear that health, not genealogy, is their focus.

Still, I agree that there is some value still in testing at 23&me as different people have tested there rather than FTDNA or ancestry.com and with some work, you can connect with some who want to share genealogical research. I think this change makes it a little bit more difficult unless you want to add a paid account at yet another company.
