I have found the cousin estimates to be overly generous. The ones I have been able to document by paper have never been as close as the range that Ancestry gives.

YMMV though.

I would try seeing if they have tested or imported to FTDNA or Gedmatch where you can look at the chromosome data and see if you can find a pattern that fits with another line.
