Greetings Folk's -
Wow, can you believe this? Almost 100! We are getting organized, too! [in just three days] :)
We have started a database to collect the following:
Member name
email address
Surnames you have info on
Your location (city & state)
Your resources you can use to help:
ancestry.com
specific CDs
etc
Jan will be putting this info into Excel for the time being, and we are looking into database software that will allow us to have a better search tool when people want to find us. We prefer that you post your data to the List; or send to Jan at
carou1@aol.com AND Ann at
annnewyorkusa@aol.com (as a back-up, I don't trust email )
this googles group Coordinator Sarah can be reached here <
sarahreveley@grandecom.net>
Please keep spreading the word to other lists and friends! Say it in your own words, or use this:
A grassroots mailing list has been growing at
http://groups.google.com/group/Katrina-Genealogists , to help those among us who lost all the data they have stored because of the hurricane. If I was evacuating, I doubt if I would have thought to take any of it. I'm quite sure they aren't thinking about it now, either. But someday they will. The first step is to develop a database of people interested in helping, their surnames, and what resources they have to help. Please help us spread the word! Then we will focus on getting the word out to those who lost databases, finding them on list archives, and thru online Genealogical and Family History Societies, and message boards. Your help and your ideas are welcome.
