Another victim of the General Slocum Disaster was William Zimmermann, age 30 years old, death cert #3421 Bronx, died 15th June 1904, buried 23rd June 1904 in the 'Lutheran Cemetery' (all this according to certificate of death). William lived at 229 Bleeker Street and was a member of the band playing on the ship (the rest of the family was not on the ship). His widow Kunigunda (maiden name Mathes or Mattis), also called 'Connie' remarried to John Carl Ell (1866-1924) whose wife Matilda also perished on the General Slocum. John Ell's three sons survived the sinking although two were horribly burned. The two Ell boys were last victims released from the hospital and were recipiants of early skin grafting techniques.
Would anyone know if the 'Lutheran Cemetery' referred to in William Zimmermann's burial is the All-Faiths Lutheran Cemetery that is on Metropolitan Avenue in Queens?
