I am very very interested in getting in touch with the family descendants, distant cousins, etc. of Captain Edward John Smith, Titanic, that sank in April 1912.
I've been on a 42 yr.+ search for the birth origin of my father-in-law along with my husband. Unfortunately, my husband passed away at the age of 64yrs.11mos.29days in Jan. 2013, without knowing His origins. We have heard many stories, one of them being that his father was a Captain Smith whose ship sank at sea. This was told to me personally by a 91 yr.old Mr. Leblanc at my home in Dalhousie, N.B., Canada in the summer of 1990+-. My father-in-law was born in 1911 in Quebec City, birth records falsified by the Anglican Archdiocese of Quebec in 1940-, He was taken in by the Doherty's in 1915 and his birth date was given as April 7, 1915. However, the Public Archives of New Brunswick in Fredericton,N.B., Canada has census that shows him to be 10 yrs .old in 1921 census, archived school records show him in grade 1, aged 7 in 1918. TheDoherty's were in their '60's when they took him into guardianship. Don't have anything on the mother yet, except my Pop always said her name was Margaret Heath????
I wonder if Edward John Smith had any brothers or sisters and if so, did they have children and grandchildren. Edward John Smith married but never had children. Can you help?
