Hi
I wondered if you had any more information about John Oakley who was born in abt 1805 and dies in the flood, he is not a direct descendant of mine. His son John Oakley marries my 2* gt aunt.It is this John and his brother who put in the claim. I must admit I can't fathom the claims and the little amount of money actually paid out. To put so little value on someones life and property as to just give £35 towards the funeral and damaged property then £50 damages rather than the £500 claimed is terrible.

Mind you conversely my 3*gt gd father Thomas Bradshaw butcher of Malin Bridge puts in a claim for £152 7s 5d and gets £230 and that was only for damage to properties no lose of life.

Hope you can help
