There was an accident at Hamilton on the 28th April 1889. The Hamilton Spectator for the 29th April 1889 reported on two casulaties but said "19 remain to be identified". I do not have the later editions. The engineer was speeding but mechanical damage was believed to be the cause of the derailed train. Fire broke out.
