I have some info to give you: Bishop, Jackson C. "Jack" - Quantrill. Born April 13, 1840, Carter Co, TN One of Quantrill's best Scouts Father was David (b 5-14-1800, Ireland) married Margaret Rebecca Carriger (b 1812, Carter Co, TN) were married abt 1827 in TN They had 9 children born in Carter Co, TN, Jackson being the 6th born. 1860 census for Jackson Co shows Doria Bishop, 60 yr old born in Ireland and wife, Margaret 48 yrs born TN as were all their children: Henry 27; Jackson C. 20 yrs, Elizabeth 12, Mary 10, James C. 8 yrs & John W. 6 yrs. Was one of Quantrill's best scouts with "Will of iron, he was a cool desperate man." . Official records only show a "Jack Bishop with Quantrill". On July 9, 1862, he led charge against Major Gower in Cass Co. Bishop was at Lawrence. At Baxter Springs he was listed as the first to shoot and kill a Union soldier. Must've been at Fayette and Centralia in 1864. Went to TX with George Shepherd in Nov 1864. In April 1865, shows Bishop being with Archie Clements in the Kingsville raid. His horse was shot and pinned him underneath. According to McCorkle: "Forming an advance of David Poole, John Poole, John Maupin, Jack Bishop, Theo. Castle, Jesse James and Press Webb, Clements pushed on rapidly, killing five militiamen in one squad, ten in another, here and there a single one, and now and then as many together as twenty. In Benton County, Missouri, a Federal militiaman named Harkness, was captured, who had halted a brother of Clements and burnt the house of his mother. James, Maupin and Castle held Harkness tightly while Clements cut his throat and afterwards scalped him. In May 1865, Bishop was in the meeting of guerrillas discussing surrender. Survived war. He was implicated in Georgetown, CO bank robbery and murdered a banker. He also was allegedly with the James-Younger gang but was not implicated in any of their robberies. Was living at "Rest Ranch" Texas, a refuge in the Pecos River country used by the James gang. Jesse wrote Bishop a letter there, dated 23 January 1877. By turn of the century believed to be somewhere in Mexico. Attended Sept 16, 1899 Quantrill Men's Reunion held in Blue Springs, MO. Death date unknown
I am still working on researching his life and can forward any more info to you, if you'd like. I am looking for a picutre of him.
