Hi Janiece ...
It was passed down to me from my Grandmother that one of the Stuckey boys killed a man in Mississippi. He was broken out of jail and came to Grimes county to hide out.
When I started researching my roots about 20+ years ago. I was able to document the whole event. Then I looked up all the old timers (Stuckey's) that I could find. I was fortunate to find two brothers, the oldest who was in his 90's, my Dad's second cousins, that still lived in Grimes county. They both comfirmed what I had already found out and added many more details. They showed me where all the posse members were buried. According to them several posse' were killed off.
I was able to verify the same story from several other family lines with only slight differences in the story.
Although the dates are a little off, sure sounds like the Stuckey's that your ancestor was after. I don't know of any other of the Stuckey boys that came up missing in that time period. They did live in Lawrence county, MS for a while and I suppose they all might have known each other over there. I'm going to see if I can find AJ in Mississippi. I couldn't find that 1850 census record ... I found the others.
