Old Bill was born in 1805 in Denbighshire, Wales. 25 Ded 1828 he m. Alice Parry in Llanrhaiadr Parish Church. Tradition is that Bill & friends were poaching for the benefit of a widow & kids of a fallen friend. A reward was offered and the widow turned states evidence. The bunch was tired in Ruthin and convicted of poaching and assault and given 14 years transportation. Bill did his time within a radius of 50 m. from Hobart town after arriving in Nov. 1833. He spent 47 years in Aus.had a bunch of red headed kids and returned to Denbigh in 1880 where he died in 1890. Sure would like to find his tracks. Believe he jumped from VDL to Victoria after FREE PARDON # 110 was granted in 1843 and that he participated in the the NSW gold rush. Some say he carved out a sheep station in the outback. I would like to contact any agency who may have early records of the sheep indudstry and hope to receive some recommendations. He must have been good at his job [probably sheep]since he was assigned to Benjamin Berthon, Cross March, in 1939. Any help will be most appreciated. Thanks. Joe Williams in Montana, USA
