Those are the 4 records to which I was referring. The one from 1867 differs from the other 3 with regards to his year of birth and year of arrival but otherwise appears to be the same man.
I have also found a Tasmanian record which shows that the Hydrabad the UK departed in Oct 1944 and arrived Norfolk Island in Feb 1845. That record includes the list of prisoners but does not list anyone named John McGillicuddy. I have read other comments here which report that some prisoners used alias'. There was a John Gill, a Protestant, listed as a prisoner on that voyage. PERHAPS, John McGillicuddy, a Catholic, was listed as John Gill, a Prostestant to save someone some embarrassment(?).
I did not know the Hydrabad was wrecked later, But that would not conflict with the record of its voyage between 10/1844 and 2/1845. That name seems to have been used on other, later vessels. There MAY have also been a concurrent vessel named Hyderabad which was also being used to transport prisoners; I cannot be sure of this but I have found records of ships with the two spellings. At first I thought I was viewing the same ship with a misspelling but then I
found records where one ship would have had to been in two places at once.
So, for the moment, I am very confused about what took place. The various records seem to conflict with one another and I am not sufficiently knowledgeable about the subject to sort it all out.
