Rossie,

Henry Pettit Taite was my great great grandmother's brother. Her name was Harriett Slee (nee Taite). The Slee family (Josiah and Harriett and five young children), along with Henry Pettit Taite, arrived in VDL on 17 February 1832 on the John Woodall from London as free setters.

An entry in the Slee family bible (held by a distant Slee relative) written by Henry Pettit Taite apparently records that Josiah Slee "died with a broken heart on the 10th of January 1838 in the 47th year of his age, after 10 days confinement to his Chamber ...." at Falls, New Norfolk, on Mr J Salter's farm. James would perhaps have been Elizabeth Salter's father rather thn a son. Josiah Slee was a currier by trade and Henry Taite was also involved in tanning or a similar trade.

Taite family records (unknown source) apparently suggest that Elizabeth Matilda Blackshaw Taite married a "Smith in Australia".

I hope this might help.

Ken Slee
