Hi Kellie,
No worries. Grateful for any assistance, how these two got here has been frustrating me for years.
Thomas and Mary had a total of eleven children. Two being born in NSW before they came to Victoria in September of 1849. Settling in Hotham which is now North Melbourne i think.
1. Julia 1846 m. Unknown FANNING, we only know she married because she died in South Melb in 1883 under the surname of Fanning... cannot find a marriage record. Also have been unable to find a birth in NSW of Julia. But i do have family records etc. and she is also mentioned on all other siblings birth certs. and also her parents death certs.
2. Mary 1847
Both born in Sydney. We don't know what happened to Mary, but on her Mothers death certificate in 1873 it states that Mary is dead.
3. John Thomas 30th Sept 1849 - born on the way to Victoria.
The rest being born in Hotham.
4. Catherine Agnes 1851 - 1851
5. Ellen (twin) 1853 m. Stephen GILBERT
6. Catherine (twin) 1853 m. Arthur QUICK
7. Thomas 1854
8. James 1855
9. Edward 1858
10. Francis 1860
11. Agnes 1863
Unsure if they still had Family in NSW or something as my GGGrandfather was 3. John Thomas HAYES, he married Sarah Jane VALLIS in Shoalhaven NSW on the 12th of July 1881. Sarah was the daughter of John Alexander VALLIS who was transported here on the ship MARY ANNE in 1835 and her mother was Mary Ann THOMAS. The Vallis's lived their lives in Shoalhaven. On this marriage certificate is says John Thomas's normal place of residence is Kangaroo Valley? with Sarah being Nowra and a domestic servant. John Thomas and Sarah's first child was born in Lismore NSW in 1883. The next 3 children from 1885 were born in Hotham (Nth Melb) Victoria and in 1892 they moved to the Tungamah district of Northern Victoria, Where they had another five children.
This might be of interest but maybe not... The witnesses on Thomas and Mary Hayes nee Slattery's marriage certificate was a Jeremiah O'Brien and a John Maguire both of Sydney. I even got frustrated one day and searched for an O'Brien or a Maguire marrying a Slattery, thinking maybe it wasn't Mary's first marriage, but came up with nothing, but i also know her Father was James Slattery. I looked for any Mary's marrying a Slattery but still came up with nothing, as the NSW marriage certs. back then don't have many details on the bride or groom.
If you need any other witness details or anything like that i have all known of certificates.
They are all buried in the Melbourne General Cemetery in the Roman Catholic section.
