Hi Kellie...
I got in touch with a fellow researcher, researching same family last week who told me she was certain and had document proof that this Thomas Hayes (convict) aged 14 when he was transported was my GGGGrandfather..... I got excited but now I'm not convinced! All she had was, that he was from Limerick etc and all the other information from his convict details....there was no definate evidence that this was our Thomas. I'm a person that has to have 100% proof that i'm following the right trail... so here i'm off again trying to find my Thomas! :)
That's probably why all the mixed messages.... I was told he was a convict by family, but i'm not absolutely certain. I know he didn't arrive here on any of the Assisted or Unassisted as we've searched thoroughly.
His death certificate is pretty vague.... The children knew exactly how long their Mother had been in colony etc. but had no idea as to their Father, no parents names or anything. I'm kind of exploring all avenues at the minute... to get a list of all the Thomas Hayes's who came here about that time, around the same age give or take a few years, as even his age on the Childrens births etc doesn't add up, which i thought he would have told, although his marriage cert. for NSW doesn't mention age or any colony details, not even where born. Once i get the list of Thomas Hayes's arriving here i can start checking each one out and seeing if they're maybe's or no's, if you get what i mean. I'm just at a loss where to start.
Thanks
Kate Finning (nee Hayes)
