Greetings,

I'm pleased to announce the start of the 1841census transcription for Inverness county.

This is part of the larger UK Free Census Project - an Internet-based 'free-to-view' database that will enable researchers to view details of UK Censuses between the years 1841 and 1891, especially the ability to search by surname across census years and counties. We currently have 110,000 people online and 60 parishes for 1841. They can be found at
http://freecen.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

I am sending out an appeal for volunteers to transcribe and/or check 1841 Inverness (also 1851Banffshire ). All you need is a computer with a CD reader. We supply everything else including the CD, software and support.

This project is a global on-line venture designed for ordinary family historians anywhere in the world.

Please visit my web page http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~banff1841.
