I’m a descendent of Rebecca Douglas, the daughter of Joel and Priscilla Douglas. There have been some photos of the graves of Joel and Priscilla and their son, Andrew J Douglas, posted on Ancestory.com with a description that explains that the graves were destroyed by the current landowner. The description makes this sound like a recent event, and that the current owner knowingly destroyed the graves. The person who submitted the photos has his or her account set to not be contacted by other Ancestory.com members, or else I would contact them directly. Does anyone have any information about this cemetery and the property owner? Has this incident been investigated by any local officials? I’d imagine that Mississippi has laws that prohibit a land owner from destroying a grave, as most states do. I would be very interested in any information that anyone may have heard. The cemetery is in Sontag, MS, which is in Lawrence County.
