I have tried keeping unproven work private, but it creates too much work answering queries because the tree is private, and no detail is publicly available. I always answer queries.
When mistakes are made on a public tree, at least there is usually feedback, and one of the great advantages of the internet is collaboration. There seems to be a growing trend towards isolation. Anything which Ancestry can do to reverse that would be very welcome.
