I've learned a good way to experiment with iffy information is to set up another tree. I make it a private tree so my guesses won't mislead anyone and do my searching from it. I don't need to start with myself or any now-living individual; I can start it with someone born 150 years ago. If my initial information turns out to be wrong, I can delete the whole tree after transferring what I want to keep to my "real tree." Sometimes entering information and letting it ferment for a few days (or weeks) will produce some leaves.
