Thank you for looking into this...and yes, a sad story indeed. I thought I'd give you a little update on recent finds. Martha Koyle's Uncle was Sheriff Whitehead who was trying to prosecute Tim Desmond-who escaped jail the day before his trial. Whitehead was succeeded by a Gus Henriod as Sheriff in about 1907. They must have known each other and it's possible that Gus adopted or took in these twins? Even though the mother's name listed as Mary Henrod doesn't match Martha. A newspaper article tells that Martha gave birth to twins on Christmas eve (and was never heard from until a mention of her attending her father-John Brocklehursts funeral a couple years later). Martha would have definitely been given the 'Scarlet letter' treatment because of her ill fated relationship and abandonment of her children. I doubt she would have stayed in the Eureka community. I've been trying to contact Gus Henriod's descendants to find out if the twins were in their family. No luck yet. I'm not giving up though. I have been in contact with Tim Desmonds descendants and it's a sad story for them as well, because Tim abandoned his wife and children when he took up with Martha. I can't imagine what they were thinking at the time.
