This info may help anyone looking for POA Records. (A link is at bottom of this post.)
My cousin and I are also searching for info on 2 little girl relatives who were orphaned and sent to live at the POA around 1860. We discovered that some earlier records are on file at Vanderbilt University!
We asked to see the records called ""Protestant Orphanage Records: 1845-1957", and were told they could be viewed by visiting the library.
The librarian's reply, in part: "... This reel is unique and not replaceable at any price (it was filmed by the Vanderbilt library and seems to be the original negative) so we are unable to lend this out. According to the library's catalog, there’s no service copy. I apologize that we can not meet your request.
However, if you ever are planning a genealogical adventure and travelling to Tennessee you are welcome to use this item in house.
My Apologies,
Deborah Lilton
Reference Librarian
