To start this query and to clarify:
My mother was adopted out along with other siblings by my grandparents. This was in the 1930's (all these children have died now). I know what happened to 4 of these children, where they lived, their adopted last names, etc. One died as an infant. The other 2 siblings were lost track of after about 10 years old. They both died young and no one (currently alive) in the family knows their adopted names or who raised them. I started my search in 1978, now, after all these years, I am still trying to find these 2 children (my aunt and uncle). I want to re-unite these family members (now dead) with their true family: the McNeils. They were adopted out but NEVER forgotten. They will always be McNeils in spite of who raised them, they are my flesh and blood. They deserve to be connected with their true family even after death. In this query, I will focus on just one of these children for simplicity sake.
There are virtually no leads, as without last names, it is almost impossible to find an adoptive child. I can only add photos hoping that someone might recognize Betty Jane who was born in 1930-1931, and adopted in Eugene or Corvallis, adoption possibly handled by a Dr. Johnson. She was named Betty Jane, or Bonnie, the adopted last name is not known. Her birth name was McNeil, her real mother was Florence Irene Smith McNeil, her father was Brinton Wallace McNeil. Both parents and a brother Bob (along with an adopted brother Kenny) visited Betty Jane up until about 10 years old or so (this evidenced by photos). Betty Jane was raised by an unknown family near Corvallis, Eugene, or Albany. Seemingly, she led a happy life, but for unknown reasons, at the age of 20-something, she ended her own life. Family rumor says she was found hanging in a closet. The location was thought to be Coos Bay, her age at that point is unknown, but she was a young adult. I also heard once she jumped in front of a train.
I am desperate to unite all 7 adopted children for posterity sake. Does anyone recognize this beautiful child, can anyone identify her? Adopted children are never forgotten by their families, I will not give up the search!
On an aside, in Oregon, adoption records are sealed for 100 years. This means I may be able to find out something in 2031. How ridiculous! All connected parties are dead, no one can possibly be hurt in identifying this child's life path.
Thank you from the McNeil family! Your help is priceless! And Betty Jane- We love you!
