San Jose Mercury News (CA) - March 28, 1996
Deceased Name: FREDERICK DRESSLER, RANCHER, MEMBER OF COWBOY HALL OF FAME
Longtime Carson Valley rancher Frederick H. Dressler, former head of state and national cattlemen's associations and a charter member of the National Cowboy Hall of Fame, died Tuesday. He was 97.
Mr. Dressler died in the house where he was born on Aug. 3, 1898, the grandson of a German immigrant who came to the Carson Valley in 1860 and started what became one of the biggest cattle and sheep ranches in the area.
At the peak of their operations, the Dresslers had about 50,000 acres of ranch land in the Carson Valley; in nearby Lyon County, Nev.; and in California's Alpine, Mono and El Dorado counties.
Family spokesman Clark Guild said Mr. Dressler apparently died of natural causes.
His wide-ranging activities focused mainly on agriculture, but he also served for 25 years on the Douglas County School Board.
He liked to take part in an annual Pony Express ride that starts in St. Joseph, Mo., and ends in Sacramento. His last time in the saddle for part of the Nevada stretch was in 1992 - in his mid-90s.
