Do you have a Facebook account? There is a page called "I grew up in Union City" we are primarily a bunch of baby boomers who reminisce about our childhoods in UC. People started talking about the local hospitals, all of which have been turned into condos now and I mentioned that I was born in Union City General and no one had heard of it. I posted a picture of it and some people remembered it, it was a private home and then a boarding house before it was torn down. I suspect your aunt is no longer alive and probably didn't discuss what went on there. The place was a private hospital and this is what someone on the Facebook page found out . . . "there's a lot of information out there regarding Union City General Hospital and the infamous Dr. Howard Welcher. Union City General Hospital was owned by Welcher & Marrone and Dr. Max Herskowitz, from Brooklyn NY. Dr. Welcher was convicted of abortion in June of 1947, had his license revoked by the Nj State medical Examiners in 1952 and was convicted of felony by the State of NJ in 1953.
