On a different subject: To your knowledge is "board for dependent children" the governing body of an orphanage operated by the county? I have an adoption which includes an official from there and the adopted party was born in 1911 and adopted in 1914. Can I be sure he was in an orphanage and is it apt to be a county-run one? Vital records cannot find his "new" birth certificate, yet he got a social security number in 1938 and worked for John Deere in IA, retired in 1972 and, I assume, drew benefits. The adoption aides feel the court records may have been destroyed from that long ago. Also, there is a list on microfilm # RG 207 of adoptions; will it be the same as the published account which I do have? This microfilm is not available to the public according to the State Historical Society. I am stumped being these agencies cannot find records when I have a published account from a newspaper. All suggestions will be welcomed and pursued vigorously! Thanks, Grace in Alaska
