My mother is in the same situation. I am searching for her since she does not have access to a computer. She sent a letter to the state of Montana asking for the adoption papers to be open (she has the name of both parents..her step father adopted her when she was 11 yrs old), and the state responded to her letter saying that they do not understand her request asking for the adoption papers to be available to her. It was really weird. They acted as though no one has ever asked that before (she also talked with them on the phone). I do hope you get better results than we did. Don't give up though, keep searching.
