Hi,
My grandmother was adopted when she was very young by a Oscar and Hattie Bailey from Shinglehouse, PA. They named her Pauline Ruth. (birth name Helen Marie) When she was retired she hunted for her birth mother and found Lillian Mae DesRochers. Evidently, both Lillian and one of her sisters got pregnant when they were teenagers, tried to keep the children but eventually had to give them up for adoption. Lillian's mother's (Cora)family came from the Three Rivers area of Montreal. The family moved to Rochester, NY when Cora was about 12. She married Thomas Boreanah (could be Bryon) DesRochers in Rochester in 1881 and had 6 children: Thomas, Lilly, Stella, Correne, Florence and Helen. The elder Thomas was quite a bit older than Cora and died when the oldest child was only 11. She tried to keep the family together but after 2 years she had to farm the children out to the orphanage and relatives. So Lilly probably was left to her own devices and had 2 children - both put up for adoption. I don't think any of the girls had very nice childhoods. We are pretty sure that the woman my gramma found was her mother. (I have pictures) She also found her sister and half sister. I have letters and documents about the adoption of my grandmother and also letters from the sisters and their uncle, Thomas DesRochers. He was an artist and by the time he was found he was living in Fort Lauderdale. If you would like me to send any of the information I have I would gladly do so.
Glad you contacted me.
Possibly another cousin,
