have you seen my many posts on the adoption board for Germany? They provided general information on how to find one's biological family in Germany.

I posted that the right is completly on the adoptees' side. They have any right to obtain their own certified birth record. That will have the mother's name and date and place of birth. It will have any info on the adoption on it. This birth entry will therefore be have a note that the birth family will never be given that info as after they agreed to the adoption they have no right to learn the new name of their child.

I have already given some ancestry members an anonymized copy from the birth register so that anybody interested can see what it looks like. Feel free to ask for that copy.

With the date of birth of the mother adoptees can apply for the certified copy from the birth mother's register. That will have - if she passed away already - her date of death and her married name if she got married later. With a bit of luck it will also say when she gave birth to a child which enables people to find their half siblings (also if she is still alive.

During the past 11 months I have helped 10 US adoptees find their birth family, most in Germany, but some also in the USA.

So I have a lot af experience with that and with an authorization of the adoptees and a copy of their driver's licence I get any record I ask for. YOU ALSO HAVE ANY RIGHT TO GET THE RECORDS YOU WANT TO HAVE in spite of the strict data protection laws that we have in Germany. Maybe you did not prove your direct descendancy or did not say you would be willing to pay their fees?
